What’s it all about? A meteorite crash lands in Crooked Oak and only Pete Brundle and his science teacher spot it. The next day, Mr Bennings, who went to investigate, is acting very strange, and additionally, weird things start to happen.
Why should I read it? The tension and fear factor are gradually turned up to the max by this experienced horror/Science fiction author. This book is one of a few in the series- ‘The Crooked Oak Mysteries’, all set in the fictional Town of Crooked Oak. The three children, Pete, Nancy and Krish, each have their own clear identity, which would be good to compare in class. Throughout the story, there are many, ‘What would you do?’ moments, which would be interested to discuss in class or small groups. With Barrington Stokes helpful coloured paper and short chapters, this engaging story would appeal to those children new to experiencing chapters in Years 3 and 4 or needing a reading boost in Year 5.
