Create an emergency preparedness plan.
I recently watched a programme where the daughter of this woman was kidnapped. The mum only knew that something was wrong because, just the second before it happened, the daughter sent a one word text message. She was just using her phone to call the police before the kidnapper took her phone from her. It transpires that this was their emergency word. If either ever received they would know that something was wrong. She was then able to contact the police and a search was started. I think this is a great idea and something every family and friendship group should set up. I know some people have apps to track down where someone is, but this doesn’t work if their phone isn’t on. My family have nicknames for each other, so if we ever use our real, legal names, we know something must be wrong.
I think everyone started to think about this sort of plan during Covid. Most people seem to prioritise toilet rolls, if supermarket shelves are anything to go by during the first few weeks of the pandemic. My wife and I talked about where we might go in an emergency, but never really came up with somewhere fixed as England is so small! A friend of ours has just travelled to Cyprus to get a Cypriot passport so that she has another option of a country to run to in an emergency.
