What’s it all about? This is a diary written by an irrepressible cat (Tuffy) who thinks (knows) its family (apart from perhaps Ellie) and possibly the whole world is against it. He thinks what he is doing is natural and accidental, everyone else thinks it’s disgusting. What will he bring into the house next?
Why should I read it? An absolute classic book, written by one of the true heavys of children’s literature. She’s won perhaps all prizes authors wish to win including the Carnegie Medal. An interesting perspective with the main character telling the story from his point of view and beautifully drawn black and white pictures. I have to say, that my son didn’t enjoy it much when he read it to me, and I’m not a fan either. I’m sure other people will love it though. To me, not much seems to happen and the cat seems to ramble on lot.
