Describe your life in an alternate universe.
My knowledge of alternative universes comes from Philip K Dick’s novel about androids dreaming, the Hunger Games, the Matrix movies and other dystopian ideals. I recently listen to John Wynham’s ‘The Chrysalids’, but didn’t really enjoy it much. Sadly, or perhaps for better story dynamics they always tend to have a bad view of the future. Therefore, I would hope that my alternative universe is more positive. I’m also thinking that it would be more of a parallel world existing in a parallel universe. I’m not sure if that’s the same thing as a alternative universe?
I think it’s probably a great topic for literature, because the author has so much control, almost like being a dictator, but without any real-life deadly powers!
I would definitely like the chance to live in my parallel world and make different choices in my life again to see what would happen to me. Is it your choices that make you who you are, or your personality? If I did go to my parallel world, I would definitely need the option to be able to return. I’m not saying I don’t like my current life, but there are definitely some ‘this way or that way’ turning points in the past where if I had made a different decision, my life would (could?) have been very different.
Personally, I hate the phrase that people say: ‘live life to the full, have no regrets’. If you have no regrets, you’ve obviously never faced a tough choice. Everyone should have regrets, things they wish they had done differently in the past, or your not human. What you do, is learn from those choices and grow as a person; be that little bit braver next time!
