What’s the story behind your nickname?

I have had quite a few nicknames over the years; it’s something of a family tradition. Most of the people on my mother’s side of the family had nicknames. I’m not sure why.

My grandad used to write in birthday cards etc to me and address them to Boo Boo.

My sister calls me Jimbob.

My wife calls me Beh.

At school, I was called B.R.E (Big Red Ears) – a not friendly nickname that was a play on the name of the character the B.F.G by Roald Dahl.

I like a good nickname, it shows closeness. My friend has the best nickname: Moose. Apparently, when he was playing football once, someone said he ran like a Moose. I use that name so naturally that his real name sounds like an imposter in my mouth!
