What’s it all about?

The book I actually read was written by Michael Morpurgo and illustrated by Michael Foreman, however I couldn’t find it listed here.

The story is a epic retelling of the classic old English (5the century) tale of Beowulf, a Geat (from Sweden). He hears about a monster who is causing havoc for the King of Denmark and goes to offer his help.

Why should I read it? Obviously the style is quite old fashioned and the story takes a while to get going. There are quite a few repeated bits where someone is recollecting what happened to them. However, it is exciting and gruesome and also provides a great moral character – someone who stands up for what he believes in no matter the cost.
