First line: Back in the 1950s, there was a boy called Charles who would grow up to be the king of the United Kingdom.
Genre: Non-fiction, biography.
Age: 7+
What’s it all about? A journey through the life of Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth 2nd. This biography takes you from Charles’ parents, through his childhood to his marriages and his own children. Key elements are his life of service to the country, key moments in history, how long he has been heir apparent and his philanthropic interests.
Why should I read it? This is an easy to read journey to help you understand our new king’s journey to where he is now. The book presents modern history in an exciting, engaging format. I think knowing some of these things will help us to understand him now, and the choices that he is making or is going to make. It does give a genuine insight into his life. The pictures help give Charles, his family, friends, acquaintances and the public a warm, cosy feel. The book is over positive in some ways and very passionate about the king’s interests and his approach to life, whereas a more balanced summary might offer a clearer picture of our new king. I enjoyed the read and genuinely learnt a few new things, which is exactly what a biography should do.
