First line: Max and his (joint) best friend) Peregrine were at Max’s house playing MONSTER MAX AND THE MIGHTY PEREGRINE I.2.
Genre: Comedy, Monsters, Ghosts
Age: 8+
What’s it all about? I was very lucky to have read the first Monster Max book (thank you UKLA), and here is the second installment in the series: The Marmalade Ghost! For those that are not in the know, Max is a regular boy, except (a bit like bananaman and his bananas) when he burps he turns into a huge hairy monster. Along with his second best friend (after his pet cat), Peregrine, the two are always looking to ‘do good’ in the local area. This time they decide to help out at the local old people’s home, but strange things start to happen: walking on the ceiling, walking through walls…perhaps something from the magical kingdom of Krit has escaped?
Why should I read it? Will Max and Peregrine be able to work together and use their different skill sets to help sort out or the issues or are the old people left to their barmy ways? How far can you carry a joke? If you’re Robin Bennet, a long way (in a good way!) – Peregrine’s invention names are as crazy, and rude, as usual! But jokes galore! A funny book with some easy to get along with characters and a moral heart, Monster Max has done it again! Along the way children will learn to try their best, how to cope with falling out with a friend, how your family are always there for you and that Marmalade is very sticky! A great read for Year 3 or 4 children, individually or with an adult.
