How are traditional story characters represented around the world?

This is the Mexican version of the classic story of Cinderella. It follows that story quite closely at the beginning with the story arc being the same, but the settings and cultural context has been changed. There are no pumpkins! Adelita has a happy life at the beginning, but then tragically both her parents die at various points and she is left with a horrible step mother and two step daughters. They head off to a fiesta with Javier who Adelita knew as a child, but she is not allowed to go. The characters are fully composed and there are some lovely illustrations. You can really pick up on some Mexican heritage (language, cultural events, food, customs, flora and fauna etc) and its great to compare with other Cinderella stories from around the globe. The language is good for a Year 3 class.
