PLANET OMAR: EPIC HERO FLOP

Published by Hachette. ISBN: 978 1 444 96098 3. £6.99
This is another installment in the popular ‘Planet Omar’ series of book, of which I have already read ‘Incredible Rescue Mission’.
It, like all the books in the series, is written in a very accessible style, with short chapters, easy to read layout, entertaining pictures and doodles to explain sections of the texts, clearly defined and recognisable characters and a story with excitement and intrigue.
For those children who are starting to find their independence when reading, this story would be a great choice, or equally a great book to read out loud and laugh together.
The story revolves around Omar, a kind primary school child, who has found out that taking the blame for things is actually making him more popular and well liked than before – and soon he can’t stop. But, there is a down side: his favourite teacher is loosing faith in him. The story also revolves around the school being visited by a TV crew who are filming children’s responses to their understanding of mindfulness, which is quite a big topic in education in real life at the moment, and also how someone has destroyed the school pond – was it Omar?!
I like how the story can help children to understand things from different points of views, and how some of the problems Omar comes up against are things that children will be able to learn from. A great book for Years 3 and 4.
