My review:
What a fantastic little book this is! From the bright, engaging front cover, to the black, white and blue illustrations festooned across the pages, to the simple, yet elegant story inside. The story is warm and full of heart. The plot revolves around Rosa, a young girl who has been flown out to the wilds to live with her Nan, who she has never met before. Nan is a character as rough and earth bound as the scenery described in the book. After a quite normal start to the book, I was quite surprised when a talking Moose arrived to chat with Nan and Rosa! As you make your way through the story, new characters arrive with their own personalities and you learn more about the unique landscape where the story is set, and the problems that are occurring there. It’s a journey of understanding for the reader as much as for Rosa. Perfect for Year 3 children with its short chapters, or possibly even Year 2s who are getting into chapter books. It could be a great book to use to compare different settings and to learn about how to protect the environment.
I look forward to reading other books by the same author!
